The Human CV was created to fill a gap.
Every day in my coaching sessions and team workshops, I come across amazing, fascinating, wonderful people. Despite all their talents, when I point out some of them, they react different to what I expect. With a sad shoulder shrug and a little sigh, they say things like:
"Oh, that's not special, it's just how I do things..."
"Yeah I love doing this but you can't make a living from that."
"If I won the lottery, I would do this every day."
I am passionate about people's skills, their values and their unique way of doing things. I help people to learn more about themselves every day, finding hidden gems as they go through questions and tools with me.
Hearing those words feels like a punch in the face. This is a huge waste of our potential. What if you could do this thing every day? What if you didn't have to wait for the lottery?
What if what you take for granted is just what our world needs???
One of my favourite authors, Seth Godin, points out how flawed the current system is:
If you are a recruiter or manager - how many times have you hired the "wrong person"?
If you are employed - how many times did you leave a position because you didn't feel that you "fit in"?
Just because a person looks great on paper, doesn't mean they will be a good hire.
Just because a person has studied something 10 years ago, doesn't mean they are still eager to do this.
Just because a person doesn't have a "proper" qualification (who makes those rules anyway?), doesn't mean they won't be terrific for your business.
Let's look beyond the titles, labels and what school someone went to.
Let's open our eyes toward a CV concept that fits a human, rather than a job.
Let's stand up and make a difference to the old ways of writing and shaping a CV for a position.
The Human CV shows the real you. It highlights the things you like, the person you are and what strengths and resources you can bring. It ignores age and dates, titles and labels and lets your passions and smile shine through.
You might already be one of over 87 million people who know their MBTI type.
You might already be one of over 16 million people who know their Gallup Strengths.
The Human CV is a simple, well designed tool to connect people with their inner talents, and connect businesses with those people.
It contains values and strengths, passions and skills.
To make the CV even more human, we need to focus on sustainability.
The Human CV includes each persons 2 favourite goals of the UN Global Goals for sustainable development.
It's database supports sustainable companies and BCorps in finding talents that would have never considered to knock on their doors.
Whether you want to create one or hire a person who has one - I am looking forward to hearing from you!
Ps: Here is a great read on using data for personality and strengths as improvement tool, written by CPP Inc. (MBTI_Strengthsfinders_Guide, pdf, 6 pages)
Ps: I drive all over New Zealand to speak at schools, companies and community centres to support the next generation of humans with a CV they can be proud of.
